Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a series of significant vehicle recalls, impacting over 270,000 Ford and Lincoln models. These recalls are part of the latest efforts to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers. If you’re wondering whether your vehicle is affected, NHTSA’s website offers a helpful search feature. You can easily check for recalls by entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which provides up-to-date information about any potential safety issues. Here’s a rundown of the major recalls announced by NHTSA between May 12 and May 18.
Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators: Brake Line Issues
Ford Motor Company issued a recall for specific 2022-2024 Ford Expeditions and 2022-2024 Lincoln Navigators. The issue stems from potentially faulty brake lines that may leak due to improper installation during the assembly process. The affected vehicles have front brake lines that could come into contact with the engine air cleaner outlet pipe, causing damage. This issue could lead to brake fluid leakage, compromising braking performance and posing a safety risk.

Ford explained that the issue may have been caused by the bending of the front brake line during engine installation at their final assembly plant. In response, Ford has instructed dealers to inspect the front brake lines and, if necessary, replace the brake line or air cleaner outlet pipe free of charge. The company is set to mail owner notification letters by May 26, 2025. A total of 273,789 vehicles are affected by this recall.
Ford F-150: Steering Control Risk
In another recall affecting Ford vehicles, certain 2025 Ford F-150 models have been called back due to a potential issue with loose fasteners. Specifically, the lower intermediate shaft fasteners may have been improperly attached to the steering gear during the manufacturing process. This can lead to the fasteners becoming loose or even detaching, creating a serious risk of losing steering control while driving.
To address the issue, Ford has instructed dealers to inspect the lower intermediate shaft fasteners and replace them as necessary, at no cost to the vehicle owner. Ford will begin sending out notification letters to affected owners by May 26, 2025.
Ford Broncos: Child Safety Lock Malfunction
A third recall affects specific 2024 Ford Bronco vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with child safety locks on the rear doors, but there’s a problem: in some models, the child safety lock may malfunction, allowing a rear door to be opened from the inside when the lock is engaged. This poses a serious safety risk, especially for children who may be seated in the back.
Ford has outlined a plan for dealers to inspect the child safety locks and, if necessary, replace the rear door latch to prevent the issue. As with the other recalls, this service will be provided free of charge to the affected vehicle owners. Notification letters for the Bronco recall will be mailed by May 26, 2025.
