Texas State Joins Rebuilt Pac-12 as Conference’s Newest Member

July 1, 2025 – The Pac-12 officially welcomed Texas State University as its ninth member Monday, marking a major step in the conference’s relaunch set for the 2026-27 season.
Historic Move for the Bobcats
Texas State’s Board of Regents approved a $5 million buyout from the Sun Belt Conference early Monday, clearing the way for the transition. The Bobcats will remain in the Sun Belt through 2025-26 before joining the revamped Pac-12.
Pac-12 Commissioner Teresa Gould called the addition a “foundational” moment for the league.

A New-Look Pac-12 Takes Shape
Texas State joins Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon State, San Diego State, Utah State, and Washington State in the rebuilt conference. The Pac-12 Board of Directors unanimously approved the Bobcats’ membership following their formal application.
Texas State’s Leadership Celebrates the Leap
University President Kelly Damphousse hailed the move as a transformational opportunity.
“This is more than athletics—it’s a statement about our growing national reputation and our commitment to excellence,” Damphousse said.
Athletic Director Don Coryell called it the dawn of a “new era” for Texas State.

Pac-12’s Media Future Strengthens
The announcement follows last week’s news of a five-year deal with CBS to broadcast Pac-12 football and men’s basketball, including championship games. Additional media partnerships are expected soon.
