Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rolled out several major vehicle recalls, affecting over a million Ford and Lincoln models among others. If you’re wondering whether your car has been impacted, don’t fret—NHTSA’s online database lets you check recall status quickly by entering your vehicle identification number (VIN).
Here’s a detailed rundown of the most significant recalls NHTSA announced from May 12 through May 18.
Ford and Lincoln Recall: Rearview Camera Glitch Affects Over 1 Million Vehicles

Ford Motor Company issued a recall for more than 1 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles due to a software defect that may cause the rearview camera to freeze, delay, or fail to display the image while reversing. Although no injuries have been reported so far, the company did acknowledge one minor accident involving property damage linked to this problem.
Ford plans to fix the issue via a software update, which owners can receive either through their dealership or over-the-air once the update becomes available. Notification letters are scheduled to be sent out starting June 16, with a follow-up mailing to inform owners when the repair is ready, expected in the third quarter of 2025. This recall covers a total of 1,075,299 vehicles.
Ram ProMaster Recall: Rearview Camera Failure
Stellantis has recalled certain Ram ProMaster vans from model years 2022 to 2025, citing a software bug in the security gateway module that could cause the rearview camera to not display images. Thankfully, no accidents or injuries have been reported linked to this issue.
Dealers will provide a free update to the affected vehicles’ security gateway module software. Owners can expect notification letters starting around June 19. The total number of affected Ram vans in this recall stands at 235,640.
Volkswagen Recall: Distorted Rearview Camera Images
Volkswagen recalled select 2024 and 2025 models of the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport due to a software problem that can distort the rearview camera image, compromising visibility while reversing. The fix involves a free software update for the camera control unit, handled by dealerships.
Volkswagen plans to begin mailing recall notifications to owners on July 18. The recall includes 171,381 vehicles.
Nissan Recall: Blank Information Display Screen
Nissan announced a recall affecting certain 2025 Frontier and Kicks models after identifying a software logic error in the center information display unit. This glitch can cause the screen to go blank when the vehicle is in reverse, potentially limiting the driver’s visibility of rear surroundings.
The solution is a free software update for the infotainment system, provided by dealerships. Owners should expect notification letters by July 1. A total of 79,755 Nissan vehicles are involved in this recall.
Ford F-150 Lightning BEV Recall: Steering Risk
Ford also recalled some 2024 and 2025 F-150 Lightning BEV models over concerns that the front upper control arm ball joint nut might not have been tightened properly during assembly. This defect could cause the front control arm to detach from the knuckle assembly, risking loss of steering control.
Dealerships will inspect and replace any faulty parts at no cost to the owner. Ford plans to start sending notification letters on June 9 to affected owners.
If you don’t see your vehicle listed here, be sure to use the NHTSA’s recall search tool with your VIN to check for any outstanding recalls. Staying informed about recalls is crucial to your safety and keeping your vehicle in top condition. Always respond promptly to recall notices and arrange for repairs as soon as possible to avoid potential hazards on the road.
